One of my favorite books

This has got be my favorite travel book of all time. I like all of Theroux's travel books but this one is in my backpack in paperback form wherever I go. I never tire of reading it and have taken it to Ethiopia. Mongolia, Burkina Faso, South Korea, Malawi, Honduras, Argentina, Ecuador etc. and it just never gets old. I travel light so when I have completed a chapter I simply tear it out! His writing is captivating and unlike many travel writers, he moans and groans his way through the most interesting places and meets all kinds of odd and fascinating characters. At the end of a long, tiring day exploring new places, it’s easy to rest and finish it off with a smile as I read about Theroux complaining about some officious individual, the poor quality of food or bemoaning the fact that the train he had scheduled to catch is no longer in service!
