All of my adult life I have been involved in developing and supporting international humanitarian projects. For the past five years I have been working in Honduras providing water and building toilets in thirty schools. I have also drilled water wells and built schools in Burkina Faso, started an orphanage for teenage girls in Ethiopia and constructed bridges in the Andes. The proceeds from my books support this work.

In the English village of Bamber Bridge, 600 Black American soldiers find something rare in a segregated army—welcome, friendship, and dignity. But their own Army refuses to accept it. After a white U.S. commanding officer orders local pub owners to bar Black soldiers, something extraordinary happens—they hang signs on their doors: “Black Soldiers Only.”

The white Military Police are enraged. A Black soldier haunted by memories of Ku Klux Klan terror forms an unlikely bond with a white pilot. Their friendship becomes a fault line in a town on edge. Violence errupts. Three Black soldiers are shot. The Army hurries to bury the truth, court-martialing thirty-five Black soldiers—no white officers are held accountable. But one voice refuses to be silenced. A lone reporter tries to expose what really happened—and reveal the quiet courage of a village that chose dignity over prejudice.
